AWOULABA – African Beauty Queen

Traditionally the African woman is curvy.

Awoulaba is an Akan term in Côte d’Ivoire for a beauty queen with curves. In popular culture the Awoulaba is a pretty woman with a guitar-like form.

In the 1980s a television presenter created a beauty contest to honour women with a curvy figure. The Awoulaba competition celebrates the typical African woman with curves. Every year many women take part in this competition.
